Right now life is hectic and a little stressful & confusing, and there are a lot of balls in the air. Sometimes I wish life had a remote control. I'd like to pause perfect moments, even just for a few seconds, rewind, fast forward a little, or skip a scene.
I've been finding solice in this perfect, sweet lemonade...especially when it's served in a mason jar. There's something very calming and soothing about it.
I like my lemonade to be sweet and just a little bit tart.....so it makes my mouth pucker a little. Sometimes a little splash of bourbon is nice too.....just saying.
Everyday Lemonade
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 cup fresh lemon juice (6-8 lemons)
3-4 cups cold water
ice cubes
1 lemon for garnish
Start off by making simple syrup - bring 1 cup of water to a boil, add sugar and stir until it's completely dissolved. Set aside and let the simple syrup cool. (The hot water allows the sugar to fully dissolve. If you try to mix the sugar into cold water it won't dissolve, and you'll be left with a grainy layer of sugar at the bottom of your glass....ick).
Juice the lemons. Add lemon juice and simple syrup to a pitcher. Add in cold water, starting with 3 cups and add more til the taste is just right.
Fill your glass with ice cubes, fresh lemonade & garnish with sliced lemon.

And, let's be honest, is there anything quite as refreshing as a tall, cool glass of lemonade on a hot summer day? I didn't think so.

Yummm...bet some pineapple sage would go well...we have been adding it to home brewed iced tea...maybe boil some into the syrup
ReplyDeleteNow I just know what to do with the leftover lemon flesh of my last recipe (limoncello icecream wadges).
ReplyDeleteThis is excellent! I've never known how to make homemake lemonade before! You're too right - it's the best thing on a summer day. I'm a fan of my lemonade treats being a little tart too. But I'd take a splash of vodka over bourbon methinks.
